Después de casi siete años siendo la curadora de arte contemporáneo de la Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros, Sofía Hernández Chong Cuy concluye un ciclo para empezar otro como la nueva directora del Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art en Rotterdam (@WittedeWith__), Paises Bajos. Durante su gestión en la Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros, Sofía realizó una extensa investigación de campo de escenas de arte en América Latina que llevó a adquisiciones de obras e iniciativas educativas tanto en Caracas como en Nueva York, nuestras dos ciudades sede, conceptualizando y dirigiendo el Seminario Fundación Cisneros durante los últimos 5 años. Sofía diseñó también un programa de becas estableciendo colaboraciones con FIA, ICI, Pivo y SOMA y apoyando espacios de arte independientes como Flora, Lugar a Dudas y TEOR/ética, entre otros. La CPPC en su publicación de Instagram felicita a Sofía en esta nueva etapa profesional agregando: “confiamos en que llevará la misión de la CPPC a otras partes del mundo, creando puentes y dando visibilidad a los artistas de América Latina en el exterior”.
After nearly seven years as our Curator of Contemporary Art, Sofía Hernández Chong Cuy is concluding one chapter to start another as the new Director of the Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art in Rotterdam (@WittedeWith__), The Netherlands. During her tenure at the Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros, Sofia conducted extensive field research on art scenes in Latin America that led to art acquisitions and educational initiatives, both in Caracas and New York, our two host cities, which included conceptualizing and directing the Fundación Cisneros Seminar during the last five years. Sofia also designed a grants program, establishing collaborations with FIA in Caracas, ICI in New York, Pivo in São Paulo, and SOMA in Mexico City, and supporting independent art spaces such as Flora in Bogota, Lugar a Dudas in Cali, and TEOR/ética in San Jose, among others institutions. We congratulate Sofía on this new stage of her professional life. We are confident she will take the mission of the CPPC to other parts of the world, creating bridges and giving visibility to Latin American artists abroad.
