El pasado 16 de agosto en la ciudad de Basilea, Suiza tuvo lugar una celebración muy especial para mi porque se trataba de la cena de bienvenida a propósito de mi residencia curatorial que comencé a inicios del mes de julio. Esta residencia es posible gracias a la cooperación de la Fundación Pro-Helvetia, Pro Helvetia Southamerica, Atelier Mondial y Ausstellussgraum Klingental. Fue una velada muy interesante porque asistieron un gran número de personas de varias ciudades del país, entre ellos representantes de museos, espacios independientes, artistas visuales, curadores, teóricos y buenos amigos que he ido conociendo en mi corta estadía.
A continuación las palabras de saludo y presentción que dije durante esa tarde en medio de una gran alegría compartida por la posibilidad de estar presentes y celebrar esta fiesta para el arte.

Good evening everyone
First of all, I want to thank our hosts this afternoon, Manuela Morales Délano and Charles Benjamin, who received us in their friendly space in Mario Kreuzberg, and who organized this very special welcome together with the dear friends of Ausstellussgraum Klingental, but I think this is also a welcome for everyone, on the occasion where many of you come from other cities for this meeting, something that I greatly appreciate.
Today I somehow formally introduce myself to all you that represent the Swiss cultural scene with great prestige, although since I arrived, I have been able to meet some of you and share a small conversation, visit some of their studios, or even share a beer around a fountain party.
I arrived in the beginning of July to complete the curatorial residency program for which I was chosen thanks to the cooperation of Pro Helvetia and Pro Helvetia South America , Atelier Mondial and Ausstellungsraum Klingental , where I will soon present an exhibition proposal but a little bit different, with open processes with a a more experimental format where the discourses and practices of artists, both local and some who are not in the country, enter into a kind of dialogue about the concerns, their worries and the constant questions that we ask ourselves in our day to day, Through art There is an intangible space to find knowledge but also a new way to explore a territory of the sensitive.
I must say that from day 1 here in Basel it has been a constant learning of internal transformations and for me setting inevitable connections from the context of Venezuela, the country where I come from and where I have carried out most of my career. This is an opportunity to be more porous, to establish a back-and-forth journey in our imaginaries and references to really determine what art means to us, in an individual and collective exercise where collaborative work and care agency is important to us, but also the voices of what each person can and is eager to say. From the liminal edges of our existence, the marginal of our expressions that tend to be exogenous but that quickly seduces and connects us. It is important to listen to each other individually, we are not a mass that speaks for others. I appeal to the singularity of thought, not as a self-centered act, but as a catalyst for that impulse that moves us specially when there are claims about how we face the present and future times, how we manage collective memory and environmental matters.
We are a drift, there is something that precedes us, but we want to generate changes.
In a postcard that I am giving you this afternoon, you will be able to see all the information on Visual Traffic with an image that I recently took from a tram because I am still not very brave on a bicycle, a privilege for a city.
Surely many wonder what Tráfico Visual is, sometimes it even appears bigger than my name. Tráfico Visual is a project that I started 14 years ago as a response to a void of information, archives and alternative forms of mediation in Venezuelan contemporary art. Something that began as a web page with live broadcasts, audiovisual content, podcasts, reviews, essay collaborations, and different articles gradually became a network of artists, curators, and people close to art who need a window, even an open door to participate and organize art community projects. From being a nonprofit virtual platform, Tráfico Visual still nonprofit, has gone on to a closer face-to-face dimension in the art scene that primarily serves the interests of emerging young artists from Venezuela and the region, especially in these critical moments for Venezuela where we are going through a humanitarian complex crisis and more than 7 million Venezuelans have left the country, including many artists who have to start over elsewhere with their lives on their backs and a desire to settle down and continue their art practice. From Tráfico Visual I have tried to accompany them, follow them up to strengthen that link with the Venezuelan art scene and so that they do not feel displaced during the migration process within the production of their work as well. From there, the idea is to navigate together with them in their new projects, adventures, and new places, just like drifting when we have to continue on a sometimes-uncertain journey.
I want to say a huge thank you to Santiago Gardeazábal from Pro Helvetia Southamerica who encouraged me to apply, Angie Vial for all the work as a delegate in South America and special thanks to to Annie and Bruno. Of course Alexandra, Isabel, from Atelier mondial , Thomas, Sarina, Silke , Alexandra, Leonardo from Ausstellugraum Klingental and All the new friends in Switzerland . And the people I will meet in the next months, hopefully.
I hope that my experience here will also serve to open the doors to many other Venezuelan artists and researchers who are working hard around the world and start a sustained dialogue with their practices and their discourses.
Finally, I want to mention that during this sunny evening you will be listening to a selection of Venezuelan electronic music that goes from the 50s to the present day, this selection was made by the artist and cultural producer Rodrigo Figueroa from the Meca Programa platform in Venezuela.

Buenas tardes a todos
En primer lugar, quiero agradecer a nuestros anfitriones esta tarde, Manuela Morales Délano y Charles Benjamin, que nos recibieron en su espacio en Mario Kreuzberg, y organizaron esta bienvenida tan especial junto a los queridos amigos de Ausstellussgraum Klingental, pero creo que ésta es también una bienvenida para todos, considerando que muchos de ustedes vienen de otras ciudades para este encuentro, algo que agradezco inmensamente.
Hoy de alguna manera me presento formalmente aunque debo decir que desde que llegué he podido conocer a algunos de ustedes y compartir una pequeña conversación, visitar algunos de sus estudios, o incluso celebrar alrededor de una fiesta en alguna fuente de la ciudad.
Llegué a principios de julio para completar el programa de residencia curatorial para el que fui elegida gracias a la cooperación de Pro Helvetia y Pro Helvetia South America , Atelier Mondial y Ausstellungsraum Klingental , donde pronto presentaré una propuesta expositiva pero un poco diferente, con procesos abiertos con un formato más experimental donde los discursos y prácticas de artistas, tanto locales como de algunos que no están en el país, entran en una suerte de diálogo sobre las inquietudes, sus inquietudes y las constantes preguntas que nos hacemos en nuestro día a día, hallan a través del arte un espacio intangible para encontrar un lugar de expresión pero también una nueva forma de explorar un territorio de lo sensible.
Debo decir que desde el día 1 aquí en Basilea ha sido un constante aprendizaje de transformaciones internas y para mí establecer conexiones inevitables desde el contexto de Venezuela, país de donde vengo y donde he desarrollado la mayor parte de mi carrera. Esta es una oportunidad para ser más porosos, para establecer un viaje de ida y vuelta en nuestros imaginarios y referentes para determinar realmente qué significa el arte para nosotros, en un ejercicio individual y colectivo donde nos importa el trabajo colaborativo y la agencia del cuidado, pero también las voces de lo que cada uno puede y tiene ganas de decir. Desde los bordes liminales de nuestra existencia, lo marginal de nuestras expresiones que tienden a ser exógenas pero que rápidamente nos seducen y conectan. Es importante escucharnos individualmente, no somos una masa que habla por los demás. Apelo a la singularidad del pensamiento, no como un acto egocéntrico, sino como catalizador de ese impulso que nos mueve especialmente cuando se plantean reclamos sobre cómo afrontamos el presente y el futuro, cómo gestionamos la memoria colectiva y las cuestiones ambientales.
Somos una deriva, hay algo que nos precede, pero queremos generar cambios. En una postal que les regalo esta tarde podrán ver toda la información de Tráfico Visual con una imagen que saqué hace poco desde un tranvía aquí en Basel, porque todavía no soy muy valiente en bicicleta.
Seguro que muchos se preguntarán qué es Tráfico Visual, a veces hasta aparece más grande que mi nombre. Tráfico Visual es un proyecto que inicié hace 14 años como respuesta a un vacío de información, archivos y formas alternativas de mediación en el arte contemporáneo venezolano. Algo que empezó como una página web con retransmisiones en directo, contenidos audiovisuales, podcasts, reseñas, colaboraciones ensayísticas y diferentes artículos se fue convirtiendo en una red de artistas, comisarios y personas cercanas al arte que necesitan una ventana, incluso una puerta abierta para participar y organizar proyectos comunitarios de arte. De ser una plataforma virtual sin fines de lucro, Tráfico Visual, aún sin fines de lucro, ha pasado a una dimensión presencial más cercana en la escena del arte que atiende principalmente a los intereses de los jóvenes artistas emergentes de Venezuela y la región, especialmente en estos momentos críticos para Venezuela. donde estamos atravesando una crisis humanitaria compleja y más de 7 millones de venezolanos se han ido del país, entre ellos, muchos artistas que tienen que empezar de nuevo en otro lugar con la vida a cuestas y con ganas de asentarse y continuar con su práctica artística. Desde Tráfico Visual he tratado de acompañarlos, darles seguimiento para fortalecer ese vínculo con la escena artística venezolana y que no se sientan desplazados durante el proceso de migración dentro de la producción de su obra también. A partir de ahí, la idea es navegar junto a ellos en sus nuevos proyectos, aventuras y nuevos lugares, como en la deriva cuando tenemos que continuar en un viaje a veces incierto.
Quiero agradecer enormemente a Santiago Gardeazábal de Pro Helvetia Southamerica quien me animó a postularme, a Angie Vial por todo el trabajo como delegada en Sudamérica y un agradecimiento especial a Annie y Bruno. Por supuesto, Alexandra, Isabel, de Atelier mondial, Thomas, Sarina, Silke, Alexandra, Leonardo de Ausstellugraum Klingental y todos los nuevos amigos en Suiza. Y la gente que conoceré en los próximos meses, eso espero.
Espero que mi experiencia aquí también sirva para abrir las puertas a muchos otros artistas e investigadores venezolanos que están trabajando duro en el mundo y entablar un diálogo sostenido con sus prácticas y sus discursos.
Finalmente quiero mencionar que durante esta soleada tarde estarás escuchando una selección de música electrónica venezolana que va desde los años 50 hasta la actualidad, esta selección fue realizada por el artista y productor cultural Rodrigo Figueroa de la plataforma Meca Programa en Venezuela.
Celebremos esta oportunidad de vernos y compartir incluso después del confinamiento por el covid. Disfruten de esta noche y gracias de nuevo.
